Spot-on, Dr Bosshardt. As an now-retired NP, I, sadly, saw this all unfold over the last couple of decades. DEI, like all woke policy, is destroying medicine. Sad.

I think they're clinging hard to DEI because they have nothing left but an ideological abyss that they can't admit and don't know how to walk away from or which direction to head. No religion, no fighting for the working class anymore, sustainability ideology is maxed out, they're losing young people, they lost their grip on controlling the online narrative and media after the right finally woke up to it since the mid 2000s, their entertainment is nuts, their sexual guidance is to be whatever isn't normal at the time, they somehow support Hamas, it is either the violence we are seeing more of, or DEI, it is truly their religion, who they are.

You seem to be conflating workplace DEI initiatives with hiring preferences. I work for a major retailer with a strong DEI program. DE's purpose is making sure employees understand the various cultures and practices of their co-workers and of our customers. That's it. It has nothing to do with hiring the best talent; DEI comes into play for people already employed.

Ratgrrrrl, No conflation at all. DEI involves both. Do you DEI administrators give talks on microaggressions, implicit bias, and dealing with white privilege? DEI has caused lowered admissions standards for things like acceptance to medical school to allow underperforming minorities to get acceptance despite having lowered scores on standardized tests and made training directors unwilling to address underperforming doctors in residencies for fear of being labeled racist, misogynist, or some other -ist and even losing their jobs. It is toxic and divisive which is why most organizations, corporations, and institutions are divesting themselve of it. It is a numbers game like I wrote. It has nothing to do with merit and excellence, both of which are critical in something like medicine. R
